For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to learning new things – whether observing others around me and in the wider world, reading various genres of literature, watching documentaries, taking classes – I truly love learning. Then, whenever a piece of information – whether it’s a helpful tip from a coach, sound advice from a friend, a new perspective or revelation in a book, or something that’s created an aha-moment for me – I’ve wanted to share that information with whomever I believe will benefit most from it.
The experiences I’ve had over the course of my life, my love of community, and the joy I experience in learning new things and connecting people to information, ultimately led me to pursue a Master of Library and Information Science degree at St. Catherine University. In addition to what I've learned about the inner workings of librarianship, I am pleased that St. Kate’s MLIS program has such a strong social justice component. Libraries, as community hubs, should be leading the charge – setting the example for all community organizations and businesses – in how to thrive in community together.
My mission is to continue learning new ways to explore information and innovative ways to teach others how to explore information, as well as to continue learning about social injustices in our society and striving to be a change agent and resource for others who want to make a difference in their community. My goals are to inspire others’ curiosity, to encourage their exploration of information and of the world around them, and to work in community with them to build knowledge and meaningful connections.
